AKDN investment in Universities announced for Tanzania is circ $ 1 billion...

Jaffer CEO, Nizar Jaffer Somji, to Lead Key Projects in Tanzania Starting 2016

We would like to announce and congratulate CEO Nizar Jaffer Somji on his appointment as Director, AKU Campus Development, Tanzania. With the acceptance of this role, Nizar continues to be a major contributor in the community, having served on a number of public and private boards. In this spirit, in Fall 2016, the Jaffer Group of Companies will introduce programs in both its Canadian and American offices to encourage employees to also become champions of their own interests and communities.
Later this January, Nizar will take over several key projects
for the Aga Khan University including the development of the purpose-built IED (Institute for Educational Development) and Academy campus in Tanzania’s largest city Dar es Salaam,
as well as the principal East African campus in Arusha. Nizar succeeds fellow Edmontonian, Nasir Peerani, who has helped envision and plan these projects over the last nine years.

After two initial ground-setting trips in late January to February and late March to April, Nizar will likely spend 4 to 6 weeks per quarter leading these projects in Tanzania. Despite this new appointment, Nizar will continue to be actively involved in the Jaffer Group of Companies. He will be available to all of his team, as required by phone or Skype and will conference into operational, budget and management meetings 2016 will continue to be a critical opportunity for the Jaffer Group of Companies to work strategically together to increase organizational efficiency, generate new business despite economic uncertainly, and achieve budgets.
