International Summer Programme
MUSIC, ART AND ARCHITECTURE IN MUSLIM CONTEXTS
1-7 July, 2013
The 2013 Summer Programme will run from 1-7 July in London. This year's theme focuses on art, architecture and music in Muslim societies and cultures. Please check the Programme Information page for updates and more information!
General Overview
The Summer Programme 2013 offers an opportunity to explore the rich
historical and contemporary diversities within Muslim societies and
cultures.
The Programme is jointly organised by the Aga Khan University Institute
for the Study of Muslim Civilisations and the Centre for the Comparative
Study of Muslim Societies and Cultures (Simon Fraser University). It is
designed as a comprehensive and unbiased introduction to the various facets of the heritage and contemporary experiences of Muslim peoples.
Instructional modules are taught by internationally renowned academics and cover topics such as Swahili music, Islamic art and modernity,
fortifications in Egypt and poetry. To complement the classroom sessions,
the Programme will feature a range of cultural activities such as visits to
museums and other important institutions along with hands-on music
workshops.
This year’s programme will be divided between two days of foundational
groundwork, three days of thematic sessions and a weekend for cultural
events and to explore relevant sites in London.
Please note that the programme content is subject to change.
