Should you let a dying person die or help them?

Post by samirziz »

I am just wondering, if a friend/relative is in his/her old age and there is no statement in their will about what should be done in the event that they go into a coma or a state where they are not able to make decisions about whether the family should pull the plug or not.. What should be done? Should we pull the plug fully knowing that nothing can be done for them and ease their suffering?

Does our faith have anything that may help us to decide what should be done in this case?

Thank you and Ya Ali.

If Doctor say's that he can't do anything, Everything is depend on GOD.

In this case we put satara for particular patient or our ismaili brother/sister.

Sometimes it happen's that doctor state that patient is in COMA and he/she should getout of COMA in 12 or 24 hour's , after all we can't do anything.

After 12/24 hour's , if he/she not become normal then we must put satara.

Suffering for me is a blessing! If someone is in this stage I think it’s between Allah and him or her… My mom was hospitalized cause of heart attack; doctors said she will not survive even an hour… I took a flight to India after 3 days, when I reached hospital she died after talking to me… everyone said she was suffering and u gave her relief but I don’t think she was, she was waiting for me… if she had died on first day I couldn’t have know the biggest truth of my life and my prayer wouldn’t have come true… I thanked God because I have meet many Childs who didn’t even had chance to see the parents and I was given that chance…

If someone is in this state it’s May be because Allah has some work to take from them… They might be many reasons….

I think no religion permits to pull the plug, in business ethic class we had a case study relating to this topic it had nothing to do with our course but my prof wanted us not only to be business managers, I remember he mentioned about a hospital in Swiss where hopeless patients are put to death after seriously studying their case… they were two groups one supported Hospitals efforts and other didn’t, each group had given good reasons for their support… in a way it can be accepted but I always had this in my mind that when we can’t give life who has given us right to give death…

In general this type of thinking can only come to children’s but not to parents… they are many kids born abnormal but parents take it as challenge and fight with it where as when children see their elders in abnormal state they try to get rid of them and forget responsibilities….
