"Prem Katha" - A Tale Of Love By Dr. Karim Gillani & Sufi Ensemble
Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYbcv1WGjMM
Prem Katha: A Tale of Love is a story of the journey of the human soul which is longing to be one with the beloved. Often in our worldly life, we confuse the rites and rituals of our spiritual practices with the essence of search for the divine. To seek that eternal light, we need to look more into ourselves because it resides deep within our own very hearts, and we just need to embrace humility and love to appreciate and experience that truth.
More than 24 professional musicians were involved in the production of this poetic and musical masterpiece, from Canada, Dubai, Iran, India, Pakistan and the UK. The video was shot in Edmonton, Canada. This song was released as part of critically acclaimed album by Dr. Karim Gillani, Raah-e-Ishq: The Path of Love.
Rumi once asked: "when will you begin that long journey into yourself?". Let us start on that exciting journey today!

'Sound waves are the furthest extension of ourselves': Why Alysha Brilla aims to heal with music
For the Brampton folk musician, music (and food) is medicine
Unable to tour this year with the COVID-19 pandemic, Brampton musician Alysha Brilla turned her focus elsewhere: using food, herbs, and spices to heal the body, spending time in nature writing, and creating her latest album Circle. Set for release this fall, Circle is a collection of songs that speak to our connection to ourselves, each other, and the planet by way of biology and spirituality. The music and lyrics are influenced by Brilla's Indo-Tanzanian spirituality, her experiences with autoimmune challenges, and climate change.
Brilla also recently opened The Frequency Portal to provide an online learning and healing space for artistic souls. The project is a digital realm full of classes and workshops, as well as discussions about the science of creativity and self-expression, the physics of sound, and how all of these things relate to our wellness and humanity.
In this video, filmmakers Jaime Leigh Gianopoulos and Cláudio Cruz spend an afternoon in Alysha's world. We take a peek behind the scenes while she produces one of her singles "The Body" and cooks traditional food inspired by her heritage, which connects her to a lineage where food, music, and nature play a powerful role in the balance that modern culture can often disrupt.

Beyond the beautiful harmonic vocals and contemporary beats Alysha weaves into her music, she also spends time studying the science of sound, investigating how sound waves impact our physical and neurological health.
"Sound waves are the furthest extension of ourselves that we can create," she says. "That's why it feels so good to sing. Sound waves travel further than the heat our bodies emit and the electromagnetic field of our hearts. That vibrational energy and the power of communication that extends the furthest is also one of the most immediately affecting of all phenomena."
As a visionary musical artist, Brilla's experimentation through her craft not only entertains but also encourages us to heal. As the world faces the many challenges it is up against — the climate crisis, global pandemics, political and social injustices — healing music plays a powerful role in supporting people to overcome and grow in the process of change and transition.

"Vaagyo Re Dhol" (Cover) - Muskan Jiwa (With Garba Dance)
Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2ranGpe96M
Muskan Jiwa sings and dances to "Vaagyo Re Dhol" a very popular Gujarati song from the movie Hellaro (2019). Saumya Joshi, an award-winning Indian poet and playwright, wrote the lyrics of the song.
"Hellaro" was the winner of the Best Feature Film at the 66th National Film Awards. The story is based on a folklore, and is set in a remote village in Kutch, Gujarat. Women were confined within the four walls of their homes and the kitchen. Even the garba dance was only for men. The sole opportunity for women to leave the house was to go to a faraway pond to fetch water for the whole family, in an area that was suffering from drought for three years. And then, one day they meet a dholi (drummer) in the middle of the desert. From thereon, they began their routine of doing garba everyday. The women finally find freedom in the traditional garba dance.
Muskan Jiwa is 12 years old and is JollyGul.com "Rising Star" and was recently crowned the National Champion of Spelling Bee of Canada in the Junior category. Muskan gives us a wonderful singing and garba dance performance of this song in her colorful lehenga choli and tells us this story of defiance to oppression, and women daring to dream, in her own very self-assured manner.

Ye Watan Tumhara Hai
This homeland is yours
Monika Ahmed sings and Nizar Noorallah NsN does his magic at the keyboard with a wonderful rendition of patriotic song "Ye Watan Tumhara Hai" for the 74th Independence Anniversary of Pakistan.
Mehdi Hassan first sang the song to the nation in 1962 which was written by Kaleem Usmani. It is a passionate plea to fellow citizens to be guardians of the country and to remind them that their beautiful country is what it is because of them and only they control its future destiny.
Mehdi Hassan (1927 – 2012) was one of the greatest and most influential figures in the history of ghazal singing. Known as "Shahenshah-e-Ghazal" (Emperor of Ghazal) with his "haunting" baritone voice, Mehdi Hassan is credited with bringing ghazal singing to a worldwide audience.
Nizar Noorallah - NsN and his team do some excellent work in the music production field in Pakistan and they also generously impart their skills to the future generation of artists through their music classes.
Monika Ahmed is a young vocalist from the Gigit area in Pakistan with an amazing potential and is part of the NsN Team. We look forward to hearing a lot more from her in the future.

Gujarati folk song
Taaliyo na taale, gori garbe ghoomi gayre
Punam ni raat chhe
Oh, where is my love? (Adapted from Song of Solomon 3:3)
Arabic
Awwal, Akhir, Zahir, Batin (Quran 57:3)
I seek, I call (Translated from Persian Qasida Bi Ruz-u Shab)
Oh when begin you to swell so high that I may drown me in you? (John Bennet)
Indic Ismaili devotional poem
Chaalo saaheli var jova jaiye, so peeya mene paaya Sharan tamare
Note from the composer, Hussein Janmohamed:
This is a programmatic musical piece based on a tragic event in my mom's family history. In 1950, a bus carrying my mom's family (the Verjee family) returning home from her brother's wedding plunged off Likoni Ferry into the waters of Kilindini Harbour in Mombasa, Kenya. 15 family members and 3 labourers drowned. Eighteen survived, including 11 who escaped from the water plus seven others that had disembarked moments earlier at the ferry terminal's jetty.
The Gujarati garba song near the opening of the piece was being sung on the bus before it plunged.
What started out as a joyous wedding celebration turned into a great tragedy. To find peace and healing I reimagined the wedding as a spiritual wedding, all souls returning home to their maker.
The contemplative section expresses the longing of the soul to return to the divine Beloved through layers of interfaith texts.
This commemorative piece tells a story of intergenerational communal healing, faith and hope from great sudden loss and mass tragedy.

"Now I know that in some parts of the world, the words “Muslim” and “music” are not often linked together in the public mind. But they should be. The cultural heritage of Islam has long embraced musical language as an elemental expression of human spirituality. Listening to music, practicing music, sharing music, performing music - have long been an intimate part of life for Muslim communities across the world, as has been the chanting of devotional and historical or epic texts."
