Sunni elders join Ismailis to prepare Didargah for Aga Khan’s visit

BOONI: Setting an example of sectarian harmony and peaceful coexistence, the elders of Sunni and Ismaili communities launched work on the preparation of Didargah for the expected visit of His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan to upper Chitral.
The venue of the Didar where followers of the His Highness would have a glimpse of their spiritual leader is the riverbed in front of Kroi Jinali called Mikilinio Shotar which has a seating capacity of 200,000 people.
With the inauguration of work, the Aga Khan volunteers corps started paving the area on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, elders of the Sunni community pledged to extend their full cooperation in welcoming the spiritual head of the Ismaili community to the area.
Earlier, there were proposals to prepare the Didargah at Booni Lasht or Qaqlasht but these were dropped due to different reasons. Local people said in Booni Lasht besides damages to crops over 800 fruit trees would have to be felled to clear the venue. The absence of water was the main reason for dropping Qaqlasht as a venue for the congregation.
It may be noted that even though the His Highness is expected to visit Chitral in connection with his ongoing diamond jubilee celebrations and the preparations have also got underway, the date for his visit has not yet been confirmed.
