From what i've heard, the Ontario Health commission had approached our health board.
The Catholics were also approached, but the majority of the churches refused to change their practices, and said "Our faith is our faith" and infact there is a photo in the Toronto Star and its shows that they are sharing the same spoon, dipping in the same cup.

Just came back from j.k. and found out that our health board and itreb jointly made the decision to seek hidayat from Hazar Imam. and that Niyaz is "search for spiritual enlightenment".
The elders of the jamat were disillusoned, and the young confused, cos niyaz as has been taught all thru BUI - has been Noor of the Imam, and the benefits of drinking fromthe same piyali. One bapaji quoted a farman that said the benefits of niyaz and of drinking from the same piyali were such athat if someone had TB, they would be cured, and at the same time, no one else could get TB. Question that arises, is why seek "measures" against SARS, when we have a cure - establish a Sataro?

Niyaz batuni meaning.
Ya Aly Madad,
Heard in Abualy Waez
Niyaz=Noor
The kumb is the Imam
The pyali is the momin
The Pir is the small jug we use to fill pyali
Ginan reference. "Shah gode, gat piye, ame to seechan hara"
I personally think the Niyaz = Noor = Farman
ref. "Amara farman che te noor che"
Imam creates farman and in the Pir Joma gives it to Jamat
49th Imam said "The firman I will give you today is important"
The momins in the jamat understand various batuni meanings and transmit the understanding of farman to jamat one by one. Very similar to the jamat drinking niyaz from the same pyali.
The act of drinking farman is important because you do not hesitate it goes inside you and becomes one with your physical being just as the farmans of Imam are supposed to, into our spiritual being.
Ginan reference: "Jibya indri ekaj nad jo bandhe so utare paar.....................
.........Satagur(Mowla) wachane(farman) jivta mare(sacrifice your ego and live exclusively per farmans), ekoter(71) puriya(generations) tena tare(salvation)"
Notice when you drink niyaz your breathing stops.
This would be a physical symbolic reminder of the above ginan kadi.
I think "marne age jo mar chale, so mar kar pame amar makan"
really means the above "Satagur wachane jivta mare" concept.
Very humbly submitted, please forgive any mistakes but do bring my attention to it.
Thanx

I do have once concern, for MHI to actually go ahead and change the ritual which is close to 700 to 800 years old, would make SARS desease something to think about. Never in our parents/grandparents and their grandparents has anyone seen such a change and they have been thorugh plague, smallpox, maleria etc.. and many other apedemic

I think Mowla is testing us and we are failing miserably.
From what I understand, the leaders at the National level had many "dry runs" using the bottles, such that the person sitting on the kumbh would not touch the bottles, hence the necessity of having 2 extra people as "bottlers", they open and close the bottle, and furthermore, jamat would not be encouraged to open the niyaz bottle at the pat. So in a nutshell, the sanctity, the essence of the WHOLE ghat patt ceremony is LOST.
The hidayat to the nat'l leaders was not specific. Using of the bottles was done at the nat'l level. Unfortunately, everyone failed to see beyond this "preventative measure" There were many unopened, half filled bottles left in khane. This has happened in many Khanes, so my quesion is , what is going to happen to them? I was told to "DISPOSE" of them. This I couldn't do.

I am competely confused as to the wording to the text that was read out in khane by Jamati mukhi saheb.
NIYAZ defined as "Search" for spiritual enlightenment?? Since When?
I am not doubting that the leaders may have gotten a hidayat from Mowla, but then why not share the "EXACT TEXT" with the Jamat?
Shamsu has explained the meaning of NIYAZ, based on ginans and farmans, and this clarifies meaning of NIYAZ as BEING THE NOOR. Not a "search"
During our parents, and grandparents time, such epedimics did occur, and the "CURE" was and has been establishing a SATARO and special GIRIYAZARI Tasbhi, which can be established by a MUKHI..OUR ceremonies have never "altered" to this extent.

I would like to add my 2 cents -cdn cents
There are in our Jamat people who think health is important and faith can not be a valide response or the only response when something as worrying as SARS happens. We should respect their opinion. As we should respect the opinion of any people who differs. This is part of the freedom of each individual to decide what he believes in, and what he does not believe in, and how he believes... Faith is a personnal matter, remember?
We can debate months and each side will maintain its own position.
I would say we should do 2 things to respect each side's feelings.
First let us have a Jamati Satado. We have done it successfuly to end many calamities in the past.
Secondly, lets have one Gat Pat in the classical form for people who want to share the same piyali at their own risk [they would sign a paper for our Council because everybody knows that our Council in Canada has that Paranoiia of being sued], and let's have the other Ghat Pat with plastic cups for those who are afraid of drinking in the same cup.
Lets make this permanent because we never know when SARS will come back again and West Nile virus just reached Toronto [they found a dead bird infected with West Nile virus this week-end], also Meningitis is coming next and many more infectious diseases of which you have not even heard the complicated latin name.
Let us forget about the sanctity of ceremonies. we have already forfeited our right to protect the sanctity of the Jamat Khana and ceremonies in the prayer hall when we allowed Dr Dodh Daya and his health board to decide what jura were allowed in the Jamat Khana.
We have already forfeited also many of our other rights, one of which is to have access to the unaltered guidance of our Imam but this is yet another subject that we'll just leave for posterity...
The Ismailis on both side just want to believe that this is Imam's guidance. Both side will follow that guidance without questioning. Why not give them the exact guidance and calm the debate now? Why hide it under a brightely conceived annoucement that create more questions then it answers?

YAM<BR>we have to follow the guidance of our Imam.If Imam is saying to use bottle than we must but one thing we should keep remember that no one can become ill by aab-e-shafa .what is meant by shafa?it means health.health giving water .How can any one become ill due to that.Without iman in holy water it is nothing but simply water.Today in this era of kaljug people have lost iman and they doubt .They even not hesitate to change the words of Imam and Pir.The lack of iman is due to lack of religious education. The level of religious education in religious centre or night school is not satsfactory.
I think like Layla said, Imam is testing us and we are failing miserably. If Imam sent us a Talika to Toronto Jamat out of the blue and say's as of today I want you to set up bottles system for Niyaz is one thing. However, if our Natl. Council brought the concerns to Imam about this apedemic and concerns of jamat, then this Imam of the Time will not let you down. That's what makes us so different from the others. We have a Imam who is flexible and changes with times.
However, question arises is the fact that if this was a health issue then MHI would have done it long time ago. What we are doing is doubting the faith in which many of you mentioned the real meaning of Niyaz. It would have been a test for all of us and I am sure none of us would have got ill from drinking niyaz. No one ever did as far as history is concern that anyone ever got ill from niyaz. What scares me is that this bottle trend will spread all accross Canada and USA and Europe eventually and piyala system will be obsolete. I hope it never happens but I can see this happeneing. Young jamat and those who lack the knowledge would always argue and bring health issues and it deeply hurts me.
Welcome to Kal Jug.

Can NOOR cause SARS?
YA ALY MADAD
If I caught SARS from Niyaz pyali and died, I would consider myself the most lucky person on earth.
Imagine dying due to consuming NOOR.
I would probably feel as though I passed away during Bandagi time between 4-5 am while in the thought of the NOOR of BOL.
Since when have Ismaili Momins started feeling afraid of death?
A Momin looks forward to Death.
Ismailism is about "Marne age jo mar chale so mar kar pave amar makan"
"Lakh be lakh ke crore rupiya ni daulat hoi ane umer pun sau basau ni hoi, badhu Zaer saman che"
Duniya initially becomes fiki then kadvi and then zaer saman.
INSTEAD
We are showing extreme disrespect to the concept of Aab-e-sifa. The entire batuni meaning changes.
Only the Imam of the time has the right to do this as per maliya hatina India farman.
Ismailis from Indo Pak are the only ones given Niyaz. This tradition started with pir Shams when he brought it from Imam of the time about 900 years ago.
Imam asked him to test the jamat and then give niyaz. So Pir Shams asked the Jamat for human flesh and roti made from the most expensive type of wheat.
Guess what happened?
Jamat stopped coming to Jamatkhana for 9 days. All this time Pir Shams sat in JK without food or water, waiting for someone to come forward with his request.
A gentle man who was a momin and BLIND was out of town and returned on the tenth day. He went to JK to do sijda and heard a noise. It was Pir Shams. He was quite suprised and eagerly greeted him.
Pir explained the situation about requesting human flesh and the special roti. The momin (I think his name is Sabhaga) gave the Pir Shams a knife from his bag and asked him to cut the flesh off from wherever he chose.
This is where Pir explained that IT was just a test and that he had come with Niyaz from the Imam.
That evening everyone heard about the happenings at JK and came to attend evening khane. Gat pat was set and there were 2 pyalis. After dua Pir and Sabhaga both drank the niyaz and that was it.
The Jamat was very angered and demanded the Niyaz. Pir refused. They threatened to take it by force and Pir said that would not be Niyaz then.
Pir Shams set up a CONDITION.
A 12 poriya beej (36 hr fast) for the jamat from thursday morning JK to friday evening JK before the jamat was blessed with NIYAZ.
Imam Aga Aly Shah changed it to 12 hour Beej.
Now if Ismailis do not keep Beej the natural consequence would be withdrawl of the blessing of Niyaz.
I think this is what is happening right under our noses.
There is no Niyaz in Afghanistan or China or Tajikistan and we all know that their Iman is way stronger than the Indo-Pak Sagvadiya panthis.
It is not suprising to me that in our ignorance we are shooting ourselves in the foot thinking we are doing the right thing.
Imam has already warned us that someday there will be no dasond.
We will wake up one morning and dasond will be no more.
What have Indo-Pak Sagvadiya panthis done in the last 50 years to influence the Imam to continue the blessings like various majlis' and niyaz and chanta?
Isn't the reverse the truth?
I think we have given the Imam every reason with our AMAL (deeds) to withdraw the blessings but he is KARIM=Generous.
How do you think a Chinese or Tajik Ismaili feels when he sees our deeds and the Imam is continuing to bless us with priceless blessings we don't deserve or appreciate?
Do you think it is fair for us to continue to disrespect Imams Farmans by not implementing them and expect to continue to have Niyaz, Chanta, Baitul-Khayal etc.?
As Mowla Aly stated:
We are not punished FOR our SINS, we are punished BY our SINS.
"Guno tamaro dushman thase, awar rang laine uthse ji"
(you sins will be your enemies, coming up in other forms{colors})
"Bando sar ta pau GUNHEGAR"
"Hirday ALY ko naam lekh, aur akhar sab dhoy
Ahmed ALY ALY karata, Pachi honi hoi so hoi"

SARS+ Satado measures or CURE?
Just a note, in Hong Kong J.K. Niyaz was still given to the Jamat in piyalis on Navroz day. (this was when SARS was at its peak in Hongkong).
This definately calls for a SATADO for the Calamity in the world. and while the local Leadership is waiting for an approval from national leaders, I wonder what would happen if we all went to our respective j.k's and asked for a satado for SARS. Any comments?

Just found out more regarding the absurdity in our thinking!!. People who are "carefully chosen" to seat on ghatpaat, have to fill out the SARS evaluation form, and the volunteers who do duty in khane have to do the same. Some have even gone as far as taking temperature!!!
Like Layla sayed: Kaljug test and failing miserably!!

GHAT PATT IN ASIA
In Hongkong J.K., all the Jamati ceremonies are being conducted inthe same manner. Niyaz is STILL given in piyalis, and no one even wears a mask in Khane.
The same is true for J.K. in Tokyo. Niyaz is STILL in piyalis.
With the SARS epidemic, the economy has been really bad, but the ceremonies in Khane have not changed at all.

Niyaz & SARS
Could any one confirm what is situation about how Niyaz is being given to Jamat in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong or other high-risk (higher than Toronto) areas?

Yes!! The conformation from Hong Kong and Tokyo Jamats is valid. Is there anyone in Singapore or Kaula Lumpur who can confirm how Holy Niyaz is given to the Jamat?

So if this it true THEN WHY DID THE ASIA JAMATS NOT GET A HIDAYAT FROM MOWLA.? Isn't their health as important as that of the canandian jamat?
or is this the case where dr. dhod daaya strikes again??

Real leadership lies in acquiescence, in praying twice as hard, in soothing others' doubts, in providing reassurance to those who are disturbed.
Real leadership lies in those who accept what the appointed leaders are doing, in the knowledge that if Hazar Imam wishes, He will tell those leaders where they are going wrong.
Let the leaders do what they are doing--they are answerable for their actions. But let us not commit a sin by calling them names; we are only harming ourselves and the jamat and what we call our Heritage.
There may be legal ramifications in Canada that we are not aware of. One person is happy to die of sars from drinking niyaz, but another might take legal action. Would that not place a burden ultimately on the Imamat?
The "Noor" that we claim is Niyaz, is with us, within us, around us, all the time. Let us not tarnish it with such bitterness, but rather polish it with tolerance, humility, acceptance of His Authority, and knowledge that any of us who betray this trust, we betray it against our own self and ultimately, each of us is answerable for our own action not the action of another soul.
Azazil suffered first and foremost refused to allow humility and tolerance to enter his heart. Let us learn from history and from one another as the true brothers and sisters we are, not engage in such talk that in turn feeds our frustration rather than solve any problems.
I sincerely hope my comments spark the light of tolerance in the readers of this forum, and not that of anger and misgiving.
