This is a legal entity formed under the Ismaili Ismaili constitution for the benefit and governance of the community.

Imam says the role of LIF is to meet, deliberate and make submission to Hazar Imam (Aga Khan), AND, what Imam specifically directs and mandates LIF. Leaders' International Forum shall meet from time to time to exercise deliberative and consultative functions and submit its views to Mawlana Hazar Imam in respect of any matters, activities, interests or questions affecting the Jamat, AND specifically referred to it by Mawlana Hazar Imam. The submissions of the Leaders' International Forum shall be implemented, only if specifically approved by Mawlana Hazar Imam..”
At Present LIF has 25 Members plus a CEO ( & staff/Team whose details are not provided by LIF)

20 of the 25 members are Presidents of Ismaili community National Councils globally.( See below for full list)

The other 5 are;

1. Chairman of LIF - presently Malik Talib (Before him it was M Eboo who is now Ismaili Ambassador for Canada. Before his it was Azim Lakhani who is now Ismaili Ambassador for Kenya (They all have other positions in community Institutions which are not provided)

2. E Rupani - CEO - Based in UK and IIS– He has been a part of the top Leadership for over 40 years.

3. Shafik Sachedina for over 25 years - Based in UK. He has many mutli and multiple positions in many community Institutions.

4. Razia Kurji - No profile and any other details are not available

5. Tania Kassim No Profile and any other details are not available.

MANDATE OF LIF, in the Ismaili Constitution - 1998

The Ismaili constitution is a Firman (Order), ordained by Imam, Aga Khan, and he says in the constitution that it is to be read with Firmans and given freely to all Ismaili Muslims (These are tot given, even on on request)


Leaders International Forum - LIF

Quote

”There shall be a Leaders' International Forum to be known as "His Highness Prince Aga Khan Shia Imami Ismaili Leaders' International
"Forum".

4.2 The Leaders' International Forum shall be directly under the authority of Mawlana Hazar Imam.

4.3 The Leaders' International Forum shall meet from time to time to exercise deliberative and consultative functions and submit its views to Mawlana Hazar Imam in respect of any matters, activities, interests or questions affecting the jamat AND, specifically referred to it by Mawlana Hazar Imam. The submissions of the Leaders' International Forum shall be implemented only if specifically approved by Mawlana Hazar Imam.

4.4 The Leaders' International Forum shall be composed of:

(a) a Chairman who may or may not be a President of a National Council and who shall hold office for such period as Mawlana Hazar Imam may determine;

(b) persons appointed from amongst the Presidents of the National Councils, whose tenure of office as members of the Leaders' International Forum shall be coextensive with their respective tenure of office as President; and

(c) such other members as may be appointed from time to time who shall hold office for such period as Mawlana Hazar Imam may determine”.

His Highness the AgaKhan, Hazar Imam, sent to and for the community ( Jamat) the following guidance message and blessings (Talika) through their President & members of each National Council. (This was followed by a two day meeting with them in Aiglemont in France in 16th & 17th December 1993)

My dear President and Members ,

On the occasion of my birthday the 13th of December 1993, I appoint with my most affectionate paternal maternal blessings, the beloved spiritual children mentioned here below as the chairman and members of the Leaders’ International Forum

My Jamat is aware that under the Ismaili Constitution promulgated in December 1986 the Leaders’ International Forum conducts deliberates & makes recommendations to me on such matters which I may refer to it, OR which it may suggest to me, in relation to, the unity, progress and improvement of the quality of life of my Jamat worldwide

Since the appointment of the first members of the Leaders’ International Forum, six years ago, many exceptional and profoundly significant changes have occurred at the regional level and individually in the countries in which my Jamat lives.

This deep process of change requires the widest observation as well is mature and careful reflection if it is to be harnessed for the improvement of the quality of life of the largest number possible of my spiritual children, bringing together in one forum - the Leaders’ International Forum - spiritual children from a large number of areas and countries will I believe enable them to share their respective observations and information and to create a pooled knowledge base from which to address in a more universal manner, with guidance of the Imam of the time, the new forces shaping the world ahead

The widened Leaders’ International Forum will also be better attuned to the ever increasing mobility of my Jamat and to determine how the Jamat needs and opportunities of the future can best be served by our institutions, nationally and internationally

I am confident that the composition of the Leaders’ International Forum membership will give a new and necessary global dimension to the matters it addresses as required at this time

Imam, Aga Khan has asked the Leaders and the community to work together with a goal to serve the community, and do so with best practice, with wisdom and with consensus.

“My Goal is that over the years ahead the institutions will achieve levels of performance called “best practice. And the moment I am able to achieve that with my Jamat in India you will be positioned in a way which I think will be very significant for the future of the Jamat.

But in order to get there I need unity in the Jamat I need all my leaders and I need all my Jamat to work together as one brotherhood, with a common goal which is to serve the Jamat

The first thing I need is unity. The second thing I need is wisdom - wisdom is not a something you learn . it is something that Life teaches you about. But I need the wisdom of the Jamat to deal with the issues in the wise manner , and in a patient manner and in the consensual manner bringing everybody around a common set of goals

three-day meeting of the Ismaili Leaders’ International Forum (LIF) in Lisbon,
our beloved Mawlana Hazar Imam was pleased to grant a mulaqat to a delegation
of senior Jamati leaders who submitted a report on key Jamati developments and
issues.

At this time, Mawlana Hazar Imam conveyed his best loving blessings to the
global Jamat for safety and security, and for mushkil-asaan.

Mawlana Hazar Imam also graciously granted Ab-e-safa and mehmani jura to be
shared among all Ismaili murids worldwide.

The National Council, Mukhi-Kamadia, Mukhiani-Kamadiani, and all Jamati

This is a thematic analysis by the author who is originally from Salamieh, Syria and is currently a PhD student in political science and international relations at Sabanci University, Istanbul. The study is based on 162 speeches since 1957, date at which H.H. The Aga Khan IV became Imam of the Ismailis. The author has unearthed more than 40 concepts used in these speeches.

“We analyzed more than 162 speeches of His Highness Aga Khan IV, the 49th Imam of Ismailis, from 1957 until 2021, and we extracted about 350 distinct quotations out of them.
We utilized thematic analysis method in analyzing these speeches; in that, we searched and secluded patterned themes or ideas, and built them as categories. Each category is a concept the Aga Khan has systematically used. We found that the Aga Khan has used near 40 basic concepts in His speeches. We grouped these concepts and selected quotations that provide exapmles of how the Aga Khan expresses these concepts.”

1. Put your Ego Aside, when serving the Imam and the Jamat - Our Ultimate purpose is to “bring a smile on Jamat's face”

On Imamat Day on 11 July 2024 LIF shared 2 photographs of a part of their meeting on behalf of the community, with His Highness the Aga Khan (Hazar Imam)

The following message was read on 11 July 2024, in all Jamat Khannas (Prayer Halls) globally during the evening religious congregations

The LIF Message

“The following report and message from LIF was read in all Jamat Khannas globally on 11 July 2024

ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE ISMAILI LEADERS' INTERNATIONAL FORUM (LIF)

The LIF is immensely happy to share with the Jamat that, prior to its meeting recently in Lisbon, Portugal, our beloved Mawlana Hazar Imam was pleased to grant an audience to a delegation of senior Jamati leaders.

On behalf of the global Jamat, the leaders conveyed respectful shukrana for our Mala's 67 years of glorious Imamat, during which the Imam's love, care, protection and blessings have taken the Jamat to new heights.

The leaders submitted to Hazar Imam the Jamat's love and allegiance, and every murid's prayer for the good health of our Imam-e-Zaman.

Mawlana Hazar Imam graciously accepted mehmani submitted by the leaders on behalf of the global Jamat, and blessed sweets which are being shared with the Jamat today on the occasion of Imamat Day.

On this occasion, the leaders submitted a symbolic gift on behalf of the global Jamat. This unique artefact is a metal basin inscribed with poetic verses by Nasir Khusraw, whom the Jamat will recall as a major Ismaili philosopher and writer, and a foremost poet of the Persian language during the Imamat of our 18th Imam, Mawlana al-Mustansir bi'llah. To this day, Nasir Khusraw's writings continue to have a profound impact on the Jamat around the world.

Malana Hazar Imam expressed his happiness for the magnificent and thoughtful gift and added that it represents a glorious period of the history of the Ismaili Imamat and the Jamat. The Imam wished the Jamat to know of his very great happiness.

Mawlana Hazar Imam asked the leaders to convey, "My Jamat is always in my love, in my thoughts and in my prayers." And Hazar Imam conveyed best blessings to the global Jamat for mushkil-asan, and the safety and security of the Jamat.

In bidding khuda-hafiz as the leaders took leave, Malana Hazar Imam said, "I am always thinking about my Jamat."

On this happy occasion, the LIF, National Council, Mukhi-Kamadias and Mukhiani-Kamadianis, and all Jamati institutional leaders convey warm mubarak to the Jamat.

Thank you for sharing two photographs of the presentation of the special Imamat Day gift to Hazar Imam on behalf of the Jamat.  

These are indeed precious photographs of Hazar Imam for every Murid. 

In the 2 photographs the 4 selected Murids, are as follows. 
They are also acting as leaders, serving the Jamat under our constitution, for decades. They claim to be  our spiritual brothers.

Sadly, these two photographs capture only partially the full richness and emotions of this important, auspicious occasion of Imamat Day.

Traditionally, this, & such events are graced with heartfelt messages from leaders on behalf of the Jamat, reciprocated by Hazar Imam, weaving a holistic narrative seen, expressed, and felt by all. There is also a declaration of love & Bayah on behalf of the Jamat.

Not releasing the pre-event requested video clip capturing this occasion, has led to a palpable void, causing concern for Murids, and prompting further questions . These two photographs, which would not need to be analyzed, give rise to avoidable and continued concerns and speculation.

Therefore, in the spirit of understanding, unity, and transparency, I request that the four (or all other Murids who know), to share the video clips and considerations that led to the decision to withhold or not have a video recording.

I am voicing what most Murids are thinking and concerned about.

A video clip would not only show the full interaction and depth of feeling for this full important event, but also serve as a lasting memory, reinforcing the profound love by and for Hazar Imam and the loyalty and devotion of all Murids. Love , devotion, and allegiance are also declared and expressed to Hazar Imam, for on behalf of the Jamat during this occasion. Were they. 

There may be some extenuating circumstances. 

Murids are only seeking to be included and informed of the true position, as Hazar Imam, our spiritual father, would wish for all his spiritual children to know.

The love and devotion of the Jamat would not be any less and remain steadfast, irrespective of the reasons and circumstances. For instance, if Hazar Imam’s ability to interact personally on video or online has changed, leading to the absence of video releases and his direct addresses, then such transparency would be met with understanding and the unwavering dedication love and support by all Murids of and for Hazar Imam.

Your response will be deeply appreciated and will help alleviate concerns and unhealthy speculation, fostering trust, transparency, inclusion, pluralism, best practices, and unity within our Jamat globally.

Meanwhile, we will also be processing the Talika and the LIF message read in Jamat Khannas regarding their meeting and Mulakat on behalf of the Jamat.

Can we please have copies. Were there only these four Murids present, and if not, who and how many? 

Additionally, access to copies of the submissions and Hazar Imam’s Guidance and directions for and on behalf of the Jamat has not been provided to the Jamat despite repeated requests.

Quality of Life Assessments for Community Projects

Introduction

In 2013, His Highness the Aga Khan confirmed that for every project undertaken by the constitutional entities of our community, a Quality of Life Assessment must be completed. This assessment is a comprehensive measurement process designed to evaluate the impact and success of each project on the surrounding communities. It is an integral part of the project, aimed at showing progress, lessons learned, challenges faced, and what needs to be done.
This assessment focuses on the quality of life and well-being of the local community where the project is taking place or which is impacted.

Assessment Process
The assessment process includes:
1. Initial Quality Assessment: Conducted at the conception of the project.
2. Ongoing Quality Assessment: Carried out during the project’s implementation.
3. Post-Completion Quality Assessment: Evaluated long after the project’s completion.
This comprehensive approach ensures that we measure the project’s impact on the community’s quality of life at every stage. As His Highness stated:

“An intimate part of our program is what we call a ‘quality of life assessment’ concerning the surrounding community - a measuring process that begins when a project is launched & continues long beyond its completion.”

Transparency
Given this Farman - directive, it is essential that every project undertaken within our community includes detailed records & copies these quality of life assessments. These should encompass:

* Budgets: Detailed financial andvother information and impacts for each project on the community and surrounding communities

* Quality of Life Assessments: Comprehensive reports from the initial, ongoing, and post-completion stages.
These assessments should be made available to all members of the community through their Mukhi’s and Kamadia Sahebs. By now, the local Jamat should have a clear understanding of the quality of life assessments and progress made over the last 5, 10, to 20 years. Additionally, we need to identify the challenges and reasons why the goals have not been achieved.

Request for Copies of the assessments for every Project

Therefore, I am requesting that copies of these local quality of life assessments be provided to all and every Mukhi’s and Jamats for their community and areas. This request inclusion and transparency is in accordance with the wishes of His Highness the Aga Khan and will help the local Jamats understand the impact and progress of past and the ongoing projects and will guide future initiatives for the benefit of our community.

It will also aid in the management of projects and budgets to be by the local community, to become masters of their wellbeing quality of life and progress, which is a goal given by Imam, for over 25 years.
