We owe Dasond on anything that we consider as a source of income - business profit, salary, interest income, gifts, realised capital gain etc.

I have also heard you are supposed to give dasond, if someone feeds you or pays for your food.

Dasond, tithing, is a BASIC metaphysical concept. The more you give, the more you get. Not just in money, but in time, or anything you give to someone who is in need (whatever the need). This is not religious BS, it's METAPHYSICAL LAW.

Daswand

Post by GMR »

Agreed. Nothing is ours. All which we have is bestowed by Almighty Allah. The more you give the more you get on this planet and afterwards. But one question. Can we give it to non-ismailis. I think we can't. Suppose we are living in a non-ismaili house and we are paying Rs. 1000/per month as rent. Can we deduct Rs. 1000/- while calculating daswand or otherwise. Clear guidance in the light of ismaili tariqa is solicited please.

Rent is a living expense and it remains the same whether you pay it to an Ismaili or a non Ismaili. It is as good as spending money to buy food. Living expenses should never be deducted from Dasond calculation.

If you start deducting all living expenses from Dasond, you will have no Dasond to pay!

You mean Rs. 1000/- to non-ismaili house owner and Rs. 100/- Mal-e-Imam (total amount to be paid Rs. 1100/-) from the income??

If one had an income of 3000/-. He would have to pay 1/8 of it as Dasond which works out at 375/-. If he pays rent out of the remaining 2625/- then he does not have to pay any Dasond on that. That is how I understand it.
