Inaara Aga Khan becomes ambassador
(FIFA.com) Monday 30 November 2009
FIFA’s Football for Hope movement has a new ambassador: Dr. Gabriele Princess Inaara the Begum Aga Khan. The Princess, who holds a doctorate in law, will immediately begin helping the movement to reach its social objectives and achieve better living conditions for children and young people all around the world.
The Princess has promoted humanitarian activities for many years and vigorously championed the cause of the most disadvantaged members of society, particularly women and children, under the auspices of her own aid organisation, the Princess Inaara Foundation.
“FIFA is proud to have gained such a prominent figure as Princess Inaara Aga Khan as an ambassador for the Football for Hope movement and we will work together with her to build a better future,” said FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter.
The aim of Football for Hope is to promote a high-quality, sustainable social and humanitarian development programme, centred around football, which focuses on the fields of health promotion, peacebuilding, children’s rights and education, anti-discrimination, social integration and the environment. These programmes have been devised with the needs of children and young people in mind and always use football as the central platform for promoting responsibility, fair play and dialogue.
New forms of cooperation
The cooperation between FIFA and Begum Inaara Aga Khan, which is based on a shared vision and mission to build a better future for young people, will see the two parties use a variety of channels and platforms to communicate and bring to life the valuable messages of the Football for Hope movement.
“I’m looking forward to working with FIFA because, as a worldwide organisation, it has the opportunity to reach out to people. Football is the world’s most popular sport, and just as the game and FIFA have the power to inspire millions of people, they also have the power to help them, provided all sectors of society – including governments, the private sector and non-governmental organisations – work hand in hand.”

International Head of Jewellery Rahul Kadakia describes a memorable encounter with a Princess and her outstanding collection — offered in the Geneva Magnificent Jewels auction
An invitation to view jewellery is always an adventure, but the one extended by Her Serene Highness Princess Gabriela zu Leiningen proved to be a spectacular experience, even for industry veterans.
The Princess hails from a successful German entrepreneurial and philanthropic family. A qualified lawyer, she was married to Prince Karl-Emich zu Leiningen for seven years, and became a consultant for UNESCO in Paris, advising on equality and women’s rights.

The Aga Khan’s Ex Is Selling Her Jewels for $15 million
 Bloomberg
Apr 5, 2016 - 07:26
(Bloomberg) -- On May 18, Gabriela Princess zu Leiningen, the former wife of the Aga Khan, will auction of 46 lots of jewelry estimated to bring more than $15 million at Christie's Geneva.
The princess (born merely wealthy, she was first married to the Prince of Leiningen before marrying the Aga Kahn in 1998), received many of the jewels as gifts from her second husband, Christie's says.
When Rahul Kudia, Christie's head of jewelry, visited the princess, he first made his way below ground to the vault. "Awaiting us there was an impressive two-story safe from the turn of the century," inside of which, he wrote in a statement, "we glimpsed towers of neatly stacked boxes."
Most of the pieces come from notable jewelers. There are objects from Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, Schlumberger, and Tiffany's, and the majority include some form of prestigious history. Merely coming from the princess's own collection isn't a bad provenance, either. Here are the top 10 lots.
