Dear Friends,   Today we had the opportunity to see Hazir Imam and Princess Zahra at The Aga Khan Hospital.  Mowla looked extremely HAPPY and I am sure He will give us all the LAAD tommorrow at the Deedar.  InshAllah!!   He was unveiling the new plans for the expansion of the Aga Khan Hospital....TZ is developing at record pace and I am sure in not too long of a time, it will become like any developed country elsewhere.   There is probably a shortage of people in Calgary because half the jamat ie here...Shukher!   Mowla is looking very fit.  He has lost some weight but looks GRAND as EVER.  It was great to see Princess Zahra as I have never seen her except in photographs.   She arrived at the hospital and waited for Mowla's motorcad to arrive a few minutes later.  Mowla is respected very well by the Tanzanian govt.  He had a full escort of motor bike and many other Mercedes Benzs.  With My Flag on His car and license plate "STATE 1", HE arrived in style as always.   He gave Princess Zahra a kiss on Her cheek and proceeded into the hospital.  Then He came out again to receive President Mkapa and went inside for His Official work.   After President Mkapa left, Mowla waved to us and said "Hello" and went upstairs to have a tour of the hospital.  After about an hour He came back down and before leaving, waved to us again....IT WAS JUST GREAT!!!!!.   I have to also tell you this.  My Bhabhi works for Diamond Trust Tanzania and they had a board meeting yesterday at the Royal Palm Hotel (formerly the Sheraton).  Mowla had apparently come there to get freshened up and while leaving from the hotel He saw some 100 - 150 Ismailis had gathered at the entrance.  He waved to all of them and said "SEE YOU AT THE DEEDAR!!"  This incident tells you that without even knowing who was who, Mowla knew these were all His murids.   I will write to you after I get the NURANI DEEDAR OF MOWLANA HAZIR IMAM tommorrow morning Saturday March 19th at 9:00 am. (It will be Friday March 18th 11:00pm in Calgary).   May Mowla Bless you all!  I am thoroughly enjoying this Khushiali....there is Happiness and Peace everywhere.   Untill next time...   Shafik

Hazar Imam was very happy throughout the Deedar. He accepted a letter

First off, He acknolwedged that the Mukhi had informed Him that there were jamats from 19 different countries. He specifically said that when the jamat returns home to all those 19 different countries, that we MUST take back blessings, and later He mentioned again to take back blessings for mushkil asan.

He spoke of the reason behind the visit in Africa. He said it was organized specifically so that He could work with the institutions to make them sustainable and effective so that the Afrcian jamat does not feel that the only place to obtain a prosperous living is in the Industrialized world. He shared his hopes that the institions would effectively contribute to health, education, and development of civil society in Africa. He said that He has always had the hope that Africa would become prosperous, with opportunities for all, and for the first time, He feels that this hope can be
realized. He mentioned that there are hopes that remain aspirations, and
there are hopes that can be realized that that, Inshallah, His hope will
be realized. He mentioned that there will be moments of regression,
that is natural in life. But we should work beyond those moments of
regression.

He then mentioned education. Especially to the younger members of the
jamat. How important it is to be educated. How we should not feel that
the traditional [4 year degree] form of an education is the only way to obtain education. He said that those who have obtained non-traditional education should not feel inadequate. He said that education can be obtained by attending extra classes, learing everyday. It's not only those who have obtained the traditional education that He is addressing.

He mentioned how He feels that our community is EXCEPTIONALLY prepared to (I beleive) prosper in Africa and to work with the pluralistic
society in Africa. He repeated and stressed EXCEPTIONAL. However, we
need to work as a united jamat, work ethically, if we feel that our
ethical principles will be compromised, than we should not move
forward.

He then mentioned the balance between "Din and Duniya". He said that
twice, specifically the words, Din and Duniya. He stressed, using His
hands that the physical life here is not eternal, that the only the life hereafter is in eternity. He said not to foresake one for the other. To attend jamatkhana daily, to pray regularly. He said, He understands how difficult life can be with the chilren in school and the pressurs of working hard, but that we should not forget the din. He said there are very few places where we cannot take out our tasbis and even for a few seconds, call the name of Aly. He said it is the rememberance of Allah that is important. He said that if we pray regularly, attend jamatkhana, have that realization, that He is ABSOLUTELY [Convinced or confident-not sure which word] that WE WILL BE HAPPY.

This is something that touched me very deeply. I believe this is the first time I have heard Him mention this. While giving prayers for our happiness, he immeditely said "I pray for the Ruhani Members of
your family-May they rest in COMPLETE PEACE", then went foward with
giving prayers for good health...

He sat down and then took care of Niaz and went back to the
microphone. He said that the Mukhi asked for forgiveness of any
errors during this visit. He said, that there was no need for that.
He said "Mubarak" to the volunteers for organizing the visit and gave
prayers for Mushkil Asan, for good health, for long lives, for unity
in our family, and for happiness.

Shukhar. On the way out, He took time to bless a few individuals by
the door by placing His hand on their shoulders, went to the rest
area, spent over 15 minutes there, and then left. When the Mukhi came
back, it was shared that He was very happy with His visit and that He

MUBARAKI TO YOU ALL FOR US HAVING DONE THEMOST WNDERFUL HOLY DIDAR OF MAWLANA HAZAR IMAM TODAY AT 2 PM SHARP.
HE WAS IN HIS MOST HAPPY MOODS AND GAVE BEST BLESSING TO US AND TO OUR FAMILIES.
HE MADE THE HOLY FARMANS MAINLY ON ACHIEIVING THE BEST EDUACTION, TO BALANCE BOTH THE 'DIN AND DUNIYA' TO HAVE CONFIDENCE IN THE FUTURE OF EAST AFRICA VERY OPTIMIST ABOUT AFRICA INSPITE OF THE INSECURITY PROBLEMS WHICH INSHALLAH HE SAID WILL NOT STAY FOREVER AND SO HE SAID ATHAT HE DIDN'T MEAN AFRICA WAS A'BED OF ROSES' BECAUSE ROSES WILL NOT GROW JSUT ANYWHERE AND ITA NEEDS CARE AND NUTURING AND THEN HE GOT TO TO GIVE THE VOLUTEERS SPECIAL RECOGNITION AND HE LEFT AFTER ABOUT 40 MINUTES SHUKAR!

HI's Nairobi Didar

Hazar Imam gave Didar @ 2.15 pm today in Nairobi for about half an hour. The Prayer Hall was full and other people were sitting in the "Pavillion". After giving Didar in the Prayer Hall, HI walked through the Pavilion. The firman is paraphrased in point form here:

Stressed heavily on obtaining education and continuing education
Despite current security and economic difficulties, things will get better but it will take time.
When making a move to another country, calculate risks. Quality health care and education should be an important factor in evaluation.
In business He stressed on ethics and transparency
"Duniya is not everything and Din is everything".HI's words.
Go to JK as often as possible. Say tasbihs of Ya Ali or any Imam's name as often as possible
He is busy putting up institutions so that one does not have to go elsewhere for further education.

After HI left Mukhi Saheb returned quickly bringing a message from HI. HI told Mukhi Saheb to tell the Jamat before they went home that He gave special prayers for "Asal me Wasal" for all Ruhanis.

HI has lost a lot of weight and appeared a little sad.

Africa was Lucky to have these Deedaras like this and Africa is always Lucky, We in Houston were disappointed that we Upseted our Beloved Spritual father and this will heart me as EV ER, AND EVER/

Hello All!

Usually this time of year I would be sending an email making fun of the Flames, Red Wings and Avs...very easy to do... but today I have a great story to tell.

Most of you met my family at the engagement. I'm sure all you me the entire family cause its so small

!!! Every family has someone who is very special...in my family it is my little cousin Fayaz. He 15 years old and is mentally handicapped do to constant seizures. Even with is handicap he still manages to put smiles on everyone's faces!

Early this week his parents, brother and sister left for Dareslam to recieve Didar from Mowlana Hazar Imam. Yesterday, Fayaz and his mom (my Nasim Aunty) were waiting in their Hotel lobby for my uncle and cousins. As they were waiting, my aunt looked up and she sees...Hazar Imam!!! walking from one point of the lobby towards the main entrance to get into his car. Already my aunt was in awe...Then a couple minutes went by...my aunt is has her tasbih in one hand ...Fayaz's hand in the other. With her head down...saying tasbih. She looks up again...Hazar Imam walked back from his car and approached my cousin Fayaz...put his hand on Fayaz's head and said very seriously, "my child, tomorrow you come for Didar!" Then he said with a smile,â€? make sure you come for Didar tomorrow!"

I think my entire family was crying y'day. I told them not to cry...why? When Fayaz and Mowla Bapa are smiling!

I am saying it because there have been many events where after time it either gets lost or gets changed (embellished upon). The following are some examples what was told to me

This is many years ago (50s or 60s), someone very close to me, was cleaning the pathway (it was the Persian rug/carpet), where The Imam was supposed to enter. As she was brushing the carpet, it was late in the evening, she noticed someone flipped a corner of the carpet and walked over it bringing on some of the sand and dust, after this was repeated for the third time she chases the shoes (feet) off the carpet with her brush, with out looking up to see who it was! Well, after few moments she notices The Imam’s Car at a distance pulling away!

On another occasion, there was a Deedar program of the 48th Imam and many Ismailis had boarded a steamboat for the city (I am not sure it this was East Africa or in South Asia, someone can please find out and post year and place). There were storms at the see and the boat (ship) was in the middle of it, at this point someone on the boat had the bright idea to put some Nias into the see in good fait to clam the sees. Well, the next morning when The Imam came to the Deedar He announced that His shoulder was a little sour from hold up the boat!

On another occasion, (I am not sure if it was Golden or Diamond or Platinum Jubilee time in East Africa) and the Jamet was served with sweets, and when Jameti Leaders noticed that they were about to run out of sweets (that was in a large pot) and they went to The Imam and explained the situation. Up on that Imam ordered to put a cover of some sort (a piece of cloth) over the pot and just keep drawing the sweets. As it turns out I fed everyone and some more!

There are two interesting video clippings of MHI's recent visit to Dar es Salaam. One on the foundation stone laying ceremony of the extension of The Agakhan Hospital and the other on the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Centre of Excellence. The former contains a footage of the ceremony for the conferment of the status of Honorary Citizen of Dar es Salaam. MHI in his remarks upon acceptance of the status said: "I hope and pray that in the decades ahead Dar es Salaam will remain what it's name is which is 'Heaven of Peace'".
