By Ali Mohammad Rajput
Ismailis: From the Earliest Times to the Fall of the Fatimid EmpireDr. Ali M. Rajput is an 88 year old Ismaili living in Birmingham, UK. He was a former lecturer in Mathematical Statistics at Birmingham University. For the past twenty years he has dedicated his life to serving the Ismailis of Badakhshan and of learning more about his faith. He is publishing a book about the Ismaili Fidai, Hassan bin Sabbah, who established the Alamut State after the Nizari-Mustali split during the late 11th century.
Simerg is pleased to produce a chapter from this book which deals with Ismaili history from Hazrat Ali until the fall of the Fatimid empire. Without going into intricate details or numerous personalities and dates, Dr. Rajput’s article provides an excellent framework for learning more about Ismaili history, as it covers important milestones in Shia Ismaili history.

Ya Ali Madad,
I am new to this Board and would like to learn about the rising of Imam Mahedi AS in Ifriqiya. I believe the Prophet had foretold his rising in the west. There was something about a river or a fountain that had dried up and would run once the Imam came to Iffriqiya. Also he had said that Al-Mahdi will rise in the west after 300 years, that his name would be "my nme"...etc. Please also provide other predictions, cosmic and non-cosmic if you will. Thanks

Mowla Ali Madad,
following is taken from an article about water miracles, from book Mowla ni madhur vaatu, translated by Dolly Chandani, posted by Karim Meharali in anecdote section of the forum)
Once Imam Mehdi was traveling with his companions towards Ifrikriya. On the way he passed a place called "Sijal masa". They decided to place a tent for resting there. While having a leisure walk in the nearby Park he passed a dry narrow canal ,as soon as he stepped there few fresh water springs erupted and started flowing towards Imam's feet as if dancing in joy to touch Imam's feet. The gardener who was working there started shouting loudly, "Mehdi has arrived ,Mehdi has arrived!". The similar incident happened when Imam Moez visited the same park and when passing the same canal, the water in the canal started overflowing on either side as if dancing in joy and the Gardener present was a great grand son of the previous gardener in times of Imam Mehdi came up to the Imam and said "Ya Mowla your great grandfather Shah Mehdi had visited this park and even though it was "daure satra" my great grandfather had recognized him because hundreds of years ago our forefathers had indicated that the canal will completely dry up and will only fill up with water when Mehdi will arrive and step over it."
