In our language aatmaa is called soul, like plants have life but they do not have soul similarly some animals have only jiv and some have both jiv & aatmaa. So all the punishments, trials & tribulations are for your jiv and not for soul. Soul is a very small particle of Allah's Noor, and our aim is to find our soul's origin and mix in it assal me vaassal.
MSMS says in The Memoirs:

"Islamic doctrine goes further than the other great religions, for it proclaims the presence of the soul, perhaps minute but nevertheless existing in an embryonic state, in all existence in matter, in animals, trees, and space itself. Every individual, every molecule, every atom has its own spiritual relationship with the All-Powerful Soul of God. But men and women, being more highly developed, are immensely more advanced than the infinite number of other beings known to us".

Also MSMS says in The Memoirs:

"Once man has thus comprehended the essence of existence, there remains for him the duty, since he knows the absolute value of his own soul, of making for himself a direct path which will constantly lead his individual soul to and bind it with the universal Soul of which the Universe as much of it as we perceive with our limited visions one of the infinite manifestations."

Ya Ali Madad

I am sure most of us as will unanimously agree that Imams' word in form of Farman is final and has the higher authority than any other sacred text. Obviously only to the Ismailis as we are His spiritual children and many a time He shares some secrets with us and these are not available to everyone else or rather outsiders.

I will not be able to share the above farman here as it talks about roohani aspect of our tariqa. But Imam has explained this very well about Jiv & Rooh (aatmaa) where it came from, how it was created. It clearly states that there are two different things within our body jiv and rooh.

But some will still argue saying that Imam in His memoirs says completely different than the farman. To them I can only give an example as follows...

There are different food for newborn babies/very young babies and different for the grownup adults. It is not possible to feed the adults food to newborn babies they will not be able to digest, if we do so it will be danger to their lives.

Above all can be understand and experience better if one practise bandagi regularly.

To brother agakhani:

Sorry I do not know which animal contains jiv which one doesn't, I heard this in missionary Abualys' waez long ago. It is very difficult to explain jiv and aatmaa in English. I am not sure whether we can use the English word spirit for jiv.

I always think there are many interpretation of farmans and ginans as well as other sacred books.

Btw in past I must have sent you and Karimbhai the above via email check and read them again, I myself found out after I read few times.

Apologies to others for not sharing the above, as I do not want smack on my wrist :-)

Absolutely true, but one thing you must remember that Imam farmans addressed to his Murids are different then to public, so memoirs and imam's speeches are written and addressed to public, keeping in mind that anyone can read or listen it whether he is Murid or not.

By the way "Earth worm" known in Gujarati as "અળસિયું" don't have jiv and
if I am not mistaken ants have both.

Brother,

With due respect, MHI has said in one of the Farmans: "The soul is created and is given a physical form." This means that anything physical has is a created soul. The physical aspect is only the manifestation of the soul. Hence anything physical is a soul....
