Jogesar ginans by Syed Imam Shah

Post by shirazkali »

I like to know about Jogesar Ginans by Syed Imam Shah. Unfortunately, I can't read or write Kuchi or Gujrati, but I was able to find theses Ginans on the website of Harvard University Library

http://pds.lib.harvard.edu/pds/view/13705725

I hope some one will be able to research on this and share your knowledge on this important topic.

Shiraz,
If you do not read or write Gujarati, but if you understand the Hindi/urdu languages then please listen the waez series of Rai Abu Ali on jugeshwar, this waez series available from Ismaili.net web site, please visit waez section and download from there.

Jugesar Ginans also called jogvanni (description of the mysteries of the path) are compositions by Sayyed Imam Shah. Each Ginan has reference to the jugesar (aspirant for the light) and expresses a certain aspect of the Path, be it doctrinal, ethical or metaphysical. All Ginans under this category have the same raga.

Below is an example of a Jugesar Ginan. There are 60 of them in total. Every verse calls the jugesar (bolded) and reinforces the theme of the Ginan which in this case is: 'such a path has been earned by the aspirants'.

PRAANN SEERJEENE SAAMEE PEE(N)DD NEEPAAYAA
BY SAYYED IMAAMSHAH

praann seerjeene shaamee pee(n)dd neepaayaa,
praann tannee e chhe kaayaajee,
kaayaa madhe karam jo meleeyaa,
to reekheeyaa maa(n)he samaayaa.
jugesar evaa jog jugesar kamaayaajee...............1

Having created life(or soul), the Lord created the body. For the sake of the soul is this material form. Due to past good deeds earned in material form(s)you are among the true devotess.
R: O aspirant, such a path has been earned by the aspirants.

jugesar te je koee jeevne odhaare,
te jarann marann naa se(n)saa ttaallejee,
vaeeku(n)tth nee vaattmaa(n) ubhaa raheene,
narage jaataa jeevne vaare.
jugesar...................2

An (advanced) aspirant is the one who saves other souls. He removes the cycles of birth and death. By standing along the path of paradise, he prevents the souls from going to hell.
R: O aspirant, such a path has been earned by the aspirants.

dheeyaan dharee dharee dha(n)dhukaarthee dekho,
ne jarann marann raakhe lekhojee,
neegam jaannee ne agam peechhaanno,
to soll kallaa maa(n)he sarave dekho.
jugesar...................3

Through continuous attention(meditation), reflect upon the original void and consider cycles of birth and death as ashes(insignificant). By knowing the scriptures, recognise the beginning or the primordial entity. Then you will understand everything through the supreme power( insight attained through meditation).
R: O aspirant, such a path has been earned by the aspirants.

aasann raakhee je koee asatall pujaave,
ennee jugate jeevonaa taarann soheejee,
bhanne gur imaamshaah te jugesar kharaa,
tene haajar meejalasmaa(n) lejo joee.
jugesar....................4

The one who worships intensely through maintaining the meditative posture, is indeed the saviour of souls through this method. The Guide ImamShah teaches, such (advanced) aspirants are genuine. They are present in the gathering of worship.
R: O aspirant, such a path has been earned by the aspirants.
