dubai jamatkhane - right of entry

Post by sigma »

i was in dubai with my family in Dec 09 and wanted to tour the khane. Surprisingly we were not allowed at that time (11.30 am) and were told to come during prayer time.. What i need to know if the khane is closed for ismailis and they can only come during prayer time??

As this incident was indeed disappointing and as far as i am concerned, i would like to know if this is a local dubai tariqah rule or a general rule?

It is not a general rule as far as i believe....each country has it's own council and i think it is the council that would be the regulatory body to decide on such issues as per their own circumstances, if you will....I believe that you should contact the council itself for clarification and I am confident that they must be having a good reason for not being able to accomodate you....I can certainly understand your concern....but maybe their own circumstances did not permit that to allow a tour outside the times of regular prayers....

dear sir, it might be that there was no guide present at that time to take you on tour of jamat khana....and i dont think you should be disappointed with that brother because atleast you were fortunate to see the building upclose.

god bless

I did not know that an Ismaili also needs a guide when he visits his own Jamat Khana? does he?

any ismaili is allowed and has a right to enter jamatkhane - does that mean that we now have to carry ismail Identification cards??

refusing me to enter was indeed questionable!

I did say, in all fairness, that you should ask the Council and bring this matter to their attention....I do not believe it is anything to do with a "guide' as usually in such high profile centres there is a care taker....it is also not so difficult to judge if one is an Ismaili or not ? like despite the pretense and extra ordinary effort on the part of Virani, some of us know that he is an ex-ismaili and is simply trying to undermine the Ismailis...now there may be some other compelling reason due to which entry wasn't given....I do not know ! but if you speak to the council I do believe that they will explain .....many times there are other reasons of which we are not aware and thus speculating is not the solution.....if people have travelled from far and want to view then just like they have clear arrangements in London or Toronto to view the centre or the Delegation of Ismaili Imamat building, there should be similar arrangements in place and known so that such situations do not arise....and so like I did say, your concerns are understandable....but I do agree with Zina, that an Ismaili does not need a "guide", if you will....unless it is the entire centre that one wishes to tour and so a guided tour may be necessary for more than just one reason and preferably with prior arrangements....

absolutely !
the ismaili center @ dubai is not just jamatkhana....it has various other symbolic meaning [ architecture and so on ] now any ismaili[including you] could not understand its true purpose unless shown by one who knows what it represents [its layout etc etc]

No ismaili needs a guide for JK, but in order to understand the purpose of certain stuff and what they represent, you do need their help

what "certain stuff' is there and would be there that an ismaili would not understand inside a JK? why are you confusing Zina?

by certain stuff i meant , architecture...the fine caligraphy etc etc.....its purpose and the reason for using it and what it represents/resembles.

Iam no idol worshipper sister who'll go JK without understanding the fine art it represents and the reason behind it....and how it is related with my faith.

everytime imam e zaman build something it has to be of some importance and carries a meaning/reason.

ismaili center @ dubai is not just a JK, it gives tour to people from different faith.... the art it carries, its enviremont ....it is there for a reason...and that reason can be translated in human language from the guide who's trained and who knows what it represents
