SURPLUS CURRY FOR FERTILISER Jun 17 2004
THE world's biggest curry is to be turned into organic fertiliser because not enough people wanted to eat it.
It took 12 chefs nine hours to make the 2.75 tonne vegetable curry in a 6ft by 7ft cooking pot.
They hoped to sell 12,000 portions at £1 each for charity. But they only managed to sell 1,500 servings.
An idea to give it to the homeless in London went wrong because they did not have a refrigerated lorry to transport it.
Plans to feed it to pigs were abandoned because of Government rules on animal feed stuffs.
Now a waste firm will recycle it into fertiliser.
Tracey Bailey, spokeswoman at Suffolk College, Ipswich, said: "It was tasty, but there was far too much of it to eat."
