The two Imams - the visible and the hidden

Post by baqi »

Interesting Wikipedia entry on Ismailis under the entry ‘Islam in Syria’

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_in_Syria#Ismailis

“Although holding their Imams to be of divine origin, as the [Twelver] Shia do, Ismailis have a dual Imamate. They believe the succession of visible Imams has continued to the present. There are, however, two imams, the visible and the hidden, the speaker and the silent. The identity of the hidden imam is not known to the community but it is believed he will return to lead the faithful.” [my insertion]

So, anybody know about the Hidden Imam? I would suggest who it possibly is, but I know that some people will not like the suggestion.

This is more a generic statement for the majority of the Ismailies..not focusing on the Nizaris
We are a subsect of a subsect of a subsect.

Also this refers to the Alawi - not the Nizari.
