Re: Personal questioning regarding Ismailism
Ya Ali Madad
Regarding Mabus's posting (which has unfortunately been locked) on his questions on and conversion to Ismaili Shi'ism from Twelver Shi'ism, I'm very much in the same position, also making the move from Twelver Shi'ism to Ismaili Shi'ism.
I would very much recommend to anyone Sayfadeen Ali's book that refutates Twelver agruments that Imam Ja'far Sadiq (a) appointed Musa Al-Kahdim over Imam Ismail (a). It's very good, it convinced me that Twelverism is completely wrong over the succession to the sixth Imam (a). Sayfadeen Ali's book is perhaps the only book, at least in the English language, that makes the case for Ismailism over Twelverism. I wish Sayfadeen's book was around when I converted to Islam and choose Twelver Shi'ism (Sunnism was roundly refutated for me, the Catholicism of Islam) as my sect (however, Sayfadeen's book is a very recent one).
If anyone has any Twelver friends/relatives who are at a loss over the doctrine of the Hidden Imam (i.e the twelve and final Imam in Twelverism), and the taqlidi hegemony of the ulema within and over Twelverism, then get 'em Sayfadeen Ali's book. It convinced me.
But, being convinced of Ismailism and that MHI is Imam-e-Zamam, I seeking now to enact devotion to the Light of Ali/Allah. How does one perform devotion as an Ismaili? I don't place much trust in any of my local tariqas, as they'll more than likely ignore me (I remember writing to the Ismaili centre in Knightsbridge asking if they could provide me with literature on Islam, when I was originally interesed in converting to Islam: they sent me a letter back, basically a rebuff, directing me to a Sunni bookshop in north London!). How do I pray as an Ismaili?? Someone pls get back to me, inshallah.
P.S anyone know where I can get an English translation of Umm Al-Katib? To wet your appetites, I quote Martyr Bibi Sayeedna Fatima Al-Zahra (a), the light of the Ahlul-Bayt (a), from Umm Al-Katib:
"There is no God beside me, neither in divinity nor humanity, neither in the Heavens nor, outside of me, who am Fatimah the Creator, it is I who created the spirit of the True Believers.”
Get stuff isn't it!!! Ya Aliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maula Ali Madad, Ya Hossein.

Ya Ali Madad
1) on Umm Al-Katib: don't know, trying to locate it myself;
2) Email [email protected]: he'll send you a chapter from one of his books on the proofs for Imam Ismail's Imamah and a refutation of Twelver arguments.

If you have not yet embraced Ismailism formally, just keep remembering Ya Ali all the time and Insha Allah you will be guided towards the Light of Ali. Also get the opinion of Sayfadeen. He has been through a similar situation.
Ya Ali madad!
I am still exporing Shi'asm, and I would like to state that I'm not in much of a rush to get officially recognized if I choose ismailism. The fact that I now recognize the light that shines through my soul is something that is priceless, whether I have a piece of paper recognizing it or not.
Nonetheless, insh'Allah with the Almighty's help I will get accepted into the institution. I understand, especially from brother Sayfadeen Ali, it will be difficult, long, and arduous. But right now I couldn't revert if I wanted to, since my family is mostly Deobandi Pashtun (Pathan in Urdu) and have told me to wait until I support myself financially to make a religious decision, which I see as a somewhat fair proposition.

Ya Ali Madaad bagi,
What Kmaherali has given bagi is the only Key to every zahir and Batine lock…. Without this one cannot take a step forward… if you want to start your spiritual journey you must start from this point and I am sure if you start you will end here at this particular point from where u started… If you have Quran in your hand without this key you will never able to understand its true meaning….
