Post by logical »

A very blessed Imamat Day to all!

Mombasa Jamaat Celebrate!

Publication Date: 7/10/2006

Hundreds of Ismaili Muslims converged at the Aga Khan Jubilee Hall in
Mombasa yesterday to mark the 49th Imamat Day and celebrate the Aga
Khan's reign as an Imam.

In a colourful procession led by the Aga Khan Band, the Muslims
marched from Diamond Trust Building on Moi Avenue to Jubilee Hall. The
event is marked worldwide to commemorate the Aga Khan's succession of
his grandfather, Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah Aga Khan, on July 11, 1957.
The Aga Khan was only 20 at the time.

Like his grandfather before him, the Aga Khan assumed the office of
Imamat and became concerned about the well-being of Muslims facing the
challenges of rapid historical changes.

Today, Ismaili Muslims live in 25 countries, mainly in West and
Central Asia, Africa and the Middle East as well as in North America
and Europe.

During his tenure, the Aga Khan has stressed the view of Islam as
based on thinking, spiritual faith and one that teaches compassion and
tolerance apart from upholding the dignity of man.

Mrs Narmin Somji, the Mombasa president of the Aga Khan Council of
Kenya, was chief guest at yesterday's celebrations.
